JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The ABA National Champions Jacksonville Giants were in San Antonio, Texas,? Friday night taking on the 2012 Southwest Division Champion Texas Fuel.
For the second game in a row, the Giants got off to a blistering start on offense and defense. The Giants forced a half dozen backcourt turnovers early in the game, and were shooting greater than 50% from the field.
The Giants went ended the first half of the game up by 22 points (64-42). Jermaine ?Slim? Bell scored 9 of his team high 24 points off three 3D baskets early in the half. The Giants defense led the way as they cruised to a big victory against one of the league?s best teams, 137-90.
New Giants addition for Season Three Tony Hooper had a breakout game for the Giants putting up a double-double with 19 and 10 assists. Another new Giant Freeman Taylor and last year's Giant standout Currye Todd added 18 and 17 points, respectively. Seven players were in double figures for the Giants. ?This was probably our best game of the year,? said Head Coach Kevin Waters. ?Outstanding defense, great ball control and real team work tonight made it look easy.?
The Giants will enjoy lunch at the Hard Rock Caf? on the San Antonio Riverfront before heading to Dallas, Texas.
The Giants will take on last season?s Final Four contender, Dallas Vandals, Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., at the famed Dr. Pepper Arena. The game will be played immediately before the NBA D-league game. This may be the largest attendance to witness a Giants performance.
